Message from the Inspector General
To Governor Perdue, Honorable Leaders and Citizens of Georgia,
It is an honor to present the first annual report of the Office of the State Inspector General. This report provides an overview of our key accomplishments and activities from 2006 through 2008 and outlines our goals and objectives going forward.
Before the creation of our office, there was no outlet for state employees to report wrongdoings within their agencies. We serve as a means to fill that gap. While the vast majority of state employees serve the people of Georgia with integrity and honesty, there are those who may not hold such high standards. Our agency serves as the state watchdog to prevent ongoing and future instances of fraud, waste, abuse and corruption.
In addition to our investigative work, we have created a new web site with an online complaint form, and have launched a public awareness campaign through the use of public service announcements. We will continue to promote effective controls, provide alternatives for systemic agency issues, assess and enhance policies and procedures, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency in state government.
We look forward to providing continued service to the State of Georgia, and promoting transparency and accountability in the operation of state agencies.
Elizabeth P. Archer
State Inspector General
